Dick Harris, federal Member of Parliament for Cariboo-Prince George and the Chair of the BC/Yukon Caucus today denounced the “foolish and dangerous move” of the NDP’s Natural Resources critic, Nathan Cullen and by Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff who whipped his caucus in favour of Cullen’s motion to ban crude oil tankers off BC’s northern coast.
“While Cullen and Ignatieff are desperately trying to keep North Western British Columbia in the global recession, the rest of Canada is making great gains to put the recession behind them,” said Harris. “The motion is a foolish and dangerous move.. it means the NDP and the Liberals voted against jobs and the economy in Western Canada, it means a vote against the resource industry in the West, it means a vote against the Enbridge pipeline that would give us jobs and a real boost to the economy,” continued Harris.
Harris explained that earlier this week, Ignatieff was in Alberta singing the praises of the oil sands and criticizing the Federal Conservative government for not doing enough to support this resource. “Then the Liberal leader turns around and whips his caucus to vote in support of this ridiculous NDP motion .. try and figure that one out,” concluded Harris.
