Mr. Speaker, we know these are difficult times for workers and their families in the forestry industry.

The Forest Products Association of Canada recently described these challenges: rising energy costs, damage done by the softwood lumber dispute and the previous government’s failure to act, and the mountain pine beetle infestation.

Mr. Speaker, that is why we’ve acted decisively and have taken measures to help the forestry sector succeed.

We protected Canadian forestry jobs and put billions back into the forestry community by getting the Softwood Lumber Deal done.

We created the Community Development Trust to protect jobs and assist communities facing downturns.

And we provided funding to help stop the mountain pine beetle infestation to ensure the long-term well-being of affected communities in Western Canada.

Mr. Speaker we are delivering for the forestry sector, its workers, and their families, and we’re getting results.
