NDP Protest
February 11, 2010
NDP-Backed Protect Tactics “despicable”, charges MP Harris Prince George, BC – Yesterday, while in Vancouver for meetings with the Prime Minister and other federal members of parliament, Dick Harris, MP for Cariboo-Prince George and Chair of BC/Yukon Caucus witnessed what he called, “either outright and willing ignorance on the part of the NDP, or a purposeful, blatant disregard for the safety and wellbeing of children and their families.” Supporters of the drug injection facility called Insite, encouraged by NDP M.P. Libby Davies on her Twitter account trapper over 200 seniors and children from the Vancouver Chinese community inside their cultural centre. The families had gathered at the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Vancouver for a large celebration. Nearly 300 Insite protestors blocked access to and from and taped and chained all of the doors shut. “This was to be a day of celebration in honour of the Chinese Lunar New Year, but instead,” said Harris, “the celebration turned into a day of terror for those trapped inside. “It’s utterly despicable. Over the years I thought I’d witnessed the breadth, depth and width that the NDP could stoop, but to think that they’d support the terrorizing of the elderly and defenceless children for from imaginary political gain, what are they thinking?... it’s utterly despicable”, charged Harris. “And what did Ms. Davies have to say about this? Again, from her Twitter account… ‘very impressive gathering in support of Insite – building covered in police caution tape – Harper, you coming out to hear people?’” “Tell me Ms. Davies, just what is so ‘impressive’ about encouraging demonstrators who are clearly endangering lives?” asked Harris. |
