Harris appointed to Standing Committee on Natural Resources
March 05, 2010

Ottawa, ON
– Dick Harris federal Member of Parliament for Cariboo-Prince George and BC/Yukon Caucus Chair, was today appointed to the Standing Committee on Natural Resources.

The Honourable Christian Paradis, the Conservative Government’s new Natural Resources Minister says of the appointment, “Mr. Harris is considered a knowledgeable veteran when it comes to our country’s natural resources.  He’s taken us through pine beetle battles and from the softwood lumber agreement to the burgeoning industries of today such as wood pellet as well as other sustainable and alternative energy sources.  Harris is a natural match and an important addition to the Standing Committee on Natural Resources.”

Prior to this appointment, Harris served on the Standing Committee for International Trade and he still serves as the National Forest Caucus Chair.

Upon hearing the news Harris said, “I am thrilled to once again be on the Standing Committee for Natural Resources.  My riding is full of forest-dependent communities and Canada is known that world over for its natural resources.  New mining ventures are showing promise for our local economies and alternative sources of clean energy are among the essential issues to be addressed. I am honoured to be a part of this important committee.”
