OTTAWA – In the House of Commons today, Dick Harris, Member of Parliament for Cariboo-Prince George, and the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, spoke on the upcoming standardization of Electronic Stability Control or ESC, on all new vehicles sold in Canada.
Harris said, “…I know that Minister Cannon has worked diligently on evaluating the performance of electronic stability control for some time. The Minister knows that ESC saves lives and prevents injuries.”
Harris continued, “If all vehicles in Canada were equipped with ESC, each year over 1,400 serious accidents and serious injuries would be prevented, and over 200 lives would be saved.”
Minister Cannon said that the department is developing ESC regulations for prepublication in 2008 and thanked Mr Harris in the House of Commons today “for his work on this file over the last two years.”
